OLDEST CITY
Nijmegen claims to be the oldest city in the Netherlands.
It dates from before Christ and has many Roman excavations.
HAVANA on the WAAL
As a "red" university town, Nijmegen is one of the most active
cultural cities of the Netherlands. (next to Amsterdam and Groningen).
The people are open minded and in for experiments.
AGGLOMARATION
Nijmegen has 165.000 inhabitants, but with the suburbs it has about
350.000. The nearest city of Arnhem is equally big. The (tango)
market
is shared between the two towns.

BY ACCIDENT
Nijmegen used to be one of the most beautiful
cities of the Netherlands, with a lot of parks, historical centre, water,
forests and hills. WWII however radically ripped the heart out on September
17th 1944. A black day, because the Alleys thought they bombed a German
city. The former beauty of Nijmegen can still be seen in the quarters
around the city centre.
FLUIDS
So Nijmegen is lacking an old heart, but many of the pleasant features
are still there: the river, lakes, and forests, and:
Nijmegen has the most cafes and terraces per capita of the Netherlands.

WEATHER
Spring can be the most enjoyable season of the year. on good
days the air is clear and the terraces are filled with energy. Summer
can be hot, but there is plenty of water around. (lots of nude beaches
too)
Autumn has warm colors and the terraces are still there.
Winter is usually mild, but the crisp and clear freezing days
we like best: then we can skate!
Throughout the year however we can expect gray and wet days.
